This page presents an example project whose WBS elements are used as SAP FSM service calls and activities.

Table of Contents

Before executing this flow, make sure to maintain all the customizing steps: Setup steps for WBS element integration.

Project creation

Navigate to transaction CJ20N and create a new project. Make sure to assign a proper Partner Determination Procedure.

Service call WBS creation

Create a new WBS element.

Name it and make sure to specify the service call-relevant project type (customized in transaction /PACG/ECM_WBS - WBS (Service call) - Definition). Specify the priority (mapping should be maintained in transaction /PACG/ECM_PSPRIOMAP - WBS (Service call) - Priority mapping).

Specify start/finish dates (basic or forecast dates will be used as service call’s start/end/due dates, depending on customizing in field ‘Dates Alloc’ in transaction /PACG/ECM_WBS - WBS (Service call) - Definition):

Enter partner functions, which will be used as the service call’s business partner and responsible person:

Business Partner is by default determined based on ‘Sold-to Party’ assignment in the WBS element. It can be overwritten by the function entered in field ‘Sold to’ in transaction /PACG/ECM_WBS - WBS (Service call) - Definition. Person Responsible is always determined based on partner function ‘Person responsible’. It can be overwritten by the function entered in field ‘Responsible person role’ in transaction /PACG/ECM_WBS - WBS (Service call) - Definition.

Activity WBS creation

Create a new WBS element, as a sub-element of the service call WBS element:

Make sure its project type is set as FSM activity-relevant (customized in transaction /PACG/ECM_WBSAC - WBS (Activity) - Definition):

Specify start/finish dates (basic or forecast dates will be used as activity’s start/end/due dates, depending on customizing in field ‘Assign dat/time’ in transaction /PACG/ECM_WBS - WBS (Service call) - Definition):

Info

Note that the activity WBS element’s duration can be specified in hours. If the related activity shouldn’t last the entire day, use hour duration. It facilitates planning of the activity on the Planning and Dispatching Board in SAP FSM.

Equipment or functional location assigned to the activity WBS element can be used by the related FSM activity (depending on customizing in transaction /PACG/ECM_ACTIVE - General Properties of FSM Activity, field ‘Send equi’):

Service call WBS release

The service call WBS, as well as the activity WBS should be released in SAP ECC/S4 in order to be visible in SAP FSM and ready for dispatching.

After releasing the WBS elements and saving the project, a new activity is created. It can be found in the activity WBS element’s relationships. This activity is automatically transferred to SAP FSM.

The WBS service call and activity in SAP FSM

The service call and activity created based on WBS elements are transferred to SAP FSM using idocs.

They can be found in the Planning and Dispatching module:

The activity can be dispatched to an available technician and then released.

Activity release triggers transfer of this activity to SAP FSM.

The activity WBS element is updated. A new partner function - ‘Person responsible’ - is created, filled with the technician to whom the activity is assigned.

The basic and forecast dates are updated using the start/end date planned in SAP FSM. Forecast duration is updated using the planedDuration value from SAP FSM.

Only dates can be saved on WBS element level. Start/end time data is stored on activity level and can be displayed with transaction /PACG/ECM_ACTI_VC03 - Display FSM Activity:

More complex structures and limitations

The example presented above was based on a simple structure where an activity WBS was created directly below a service call WBS element. The structure can be more complex, as long as for each activity WBS a service call WBS element can be found, using down-top structure:

Note

The following limitations apply:

  • “Service call” WBS can’t include another “service call” WBS

  • “Activity” WBS can’t include another “activity” WBS

  • “Activity” WBS can’t include another “Service call” WBS

Projects without proper structure will not be processed correctly.
