Processing of Warranty Master Data

Processing of Warranty Master Data

This function enables you to store default values for the vehicle and parts warranty, such as warranty conditions, in the system. You can also define warranty categories, which you can use to control Warranty Claim Processing (LO-WTY).
In the case of parts, the system finds the data required for a warranty claim, such as the bill-to party (car manufacturer) and warranty claim type, using the criteria technique in the service order.
In the vehicle master record, you can assign the vehicle warranty categories, which are proposed on the basis of the criteria technique, and define warranty conditions. If you create a service order for the vehicle, the system displays the possible warranties for the vehicle in a dialog box.

Prerequisites

In Customizing for Vehicle Sales and Service (VSS), you have made the following settings under Service Warranty:

  • Definition of one or more criteria tables and access sequences for warranty determination
  • Assignment of item categories in the VSS order for item types in the warranty claim

Features

In variable key fields (criteria), the system finds one or more warranty profiles. The warranty profile specifies which warranty conditions (such as validity in kilometers and warranty period) apply for the vehicle or part, and at which manufacturer the warranty is validated. On the basis of the warranty categories, which are also assigned to the warranty profile, the system finds the type of warranty (for example, manufacturer warranty or implied warranty) as well as the relevant warranty claim type.
The following applies for the vehicle warranty: The system transfers all warranty categories of the warranty profile found as a default setting to the vehicle master record. The warranty is active as soon as you enter the warranty start in the vehicle master record or VSS order.

Note

Note: In accordance with the default implementation of the Business Add-In BAdI: Warranty Check in Order, the validity of the vehicle warranty depends on the following entries:

  • Warranty period, that is, the warranty start and duration
  • Mileage/kms interval
  • Sales date of the vehicle
  • Mileage/kms on the vehicle

You can use a separate implementation to influence which warranties the system displays as valid when a VSS order is created.
You can use the BAdI Control Vehicle Warranties (/DBE/VEHICLE_IWTY) to influence, for example, the validity periods of warranties; color coding in the warranty indicates which warranties are valid and which not.

The following applies for the parts warranty:
By entering the invoice date of the VSS order relevant for the parts warranty in the parts order, you can define the start date of the parts warranty. The warranty check then checks the validity of the parts warranty.
