Parts management - FSM
Business context
The procurement or delivery of Spare parts required by a field service technician for an onsite service can be managed using the VSS.
In the integrated process scenario, we differentiate these types of parts:
Reserved material – materials added to the service order as line items by backoffice / parts clerk. Reserved material can be divided into:
o Customer consignment / Technician Consignment
o Drop shipment with direct delivery to Customer Consignment or Technician Consignment
o Direct consumption – technician uses materials from a dedicated storage location based on information from the service order
Unplanned material
o Material added via FSM Mobile app – material is added by technician using FSM Mobile application
The tight integration between FSM and VSS ensures that the consumption of spare parts by technician and issue from consignment stock is always up to date with respect to Inventory Management.
The required parts can also be procured from a Supplier (Supplier maintained as a valid source of supply) and delivered to customer or technician via a special procurement scenario of drop shipments. This procurement for delivery can be maintained as a one-step or a two-step process.
With returns process, it is possible to create a goods movement for returning the unconsumed parts back to consignment returns stock or it is also possible to inventory the stock in own plant.
Based on the various possible combinations we can devise below mentioned integration scenarios for VSS and FSM
