Working with Covered Services
You can use this function to handle covered services for your organization. A covered service is a vehicle service to which a customer is entitled under the terms of a service contract. Examples of covered services include inspections and oil changes.
In the service contract, you can specify covered services. Covered services are represented by items that have the item categories QSC or QSCC. You can navigate directly to the item from the service contract. In the tab page VSS Data, you can view information about the covered service.
In the service contract, a covered service is represented by an item that has one of the following item categories:
- QSC (VSS service contract item)
Item category QSC (VSS service contract item) is available in the service contract by default. If you use item category QSC, the fields Covered Service and Received Service in the tab page VSS Data are always in display mode. This means that the fields are not used; no updates from the VSS order occur with regard to covered services.
- QSCC (VSS service contract coupon)
You can use item category QSCC to integrate covered services with your internal processes. In the tab page VSS Data, the fields Covered Service and Received Service are active. In Customizing for VSS under Service > Service Contract > Activate Covered Service for Item Categories, you can activate this feature.
The Covered Service and Received Service field are affected by billing cancelations and billings. However, order type 2103 (service contract release order returns) does not affect the covered service fields. These fields are not increased or decreased.
Note
The Received Service field can be greater than the Covered Service field (for goodwill for example). If this happens, the system displays a warning message during the billing of the VSS order. You can change this behavior in Customizing and substitute a warning message for an error message.
Note
In the VSS order, if a split that has the amount zero is billed to a service contract, the received service counter is not increased by 1. If a billing cancellation occurs for the split item, the counter is not decreased by 1.
Prerequisites
In Customizing for VSS under Service > Service Contract > Specify Sales Document Types as VSS-Relevant you have specified the sales document types that are relevant for VSS.
Example
Your organization wants to work with covered services, and has made the required Customizing settings. A contract specifies that a customer is to receive five free inspections for a vehicle. With every billed VSS order (order type 2003, service contract release order), the system increases the field Received Service by 1.
If the billing document for a service contract release order is canceled, the system decreases the field Received Service by 1.
The service advisor has therefore an overview about how many inspections are already done, and how many are pending.
